I would probably agree. 
To be considered fixed:
At a minimum, this option should be turned off by default, since first-time users will not want it, and it makes the program not work at startup with standard hardware.
At a maximum, Xinput does not work. I don't think anyone using Xournal and subscribing to this bug has tested it, using a device that needs it. We're just using it with a standard configuration and a mouse. 
???The Xinput standards were changed at about the time Xournal stopped working.

I'm not sure what kind of device uses Xinput. If the Wacom tablet uses it I may be able to test it, but I suspect it does not.
