Moving the mouse in or out of VMware console fails when mouse is moved slowly.
In: the mouse pointer moves into console, then jumps out some amount of points, Moves in again and is set outside again.
Out: the mouse pointer moves out of console, then jumps in some amount of points, moves out again and ist set inside again.

This is for the lower border. If you move the mouse really fast --- fast
enough to make the mouse move more than the amount of pixels it jumps in
or out, you'll be able to cross the lower boundary.

Clicking tabs within VMware or Favorites does not change to an other tab, but catches the mouse for the virtual machine. You can't switch to an other tab this way or select an other favorite. Not sure if this is a problem of the host or guest.
