Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: virtualbox-ose
x86_64 Lucid as at 2010-01-27, VirtualBox 3.1.2
If I run a VM containing 64 bit Windows 7, very early in the boot process I get a VirtualBox dialog saying "VT-x/AMD-V hardware acceleration has been enabled, but it is not operational. Your 64-bit guest will fail to detect a 64-bit CPU and will not be able to boot. Please ensure that you have enabled VT-x/AMD-V properly in the BIOS of your host computer."
However, if I boot the *same* host computer into i386 Lucid (with -pae kernel) as at same date, same VirtualBox version, the *same* VM boots fine. I have checked the BIOS anyway, and "Virtualization" is enabled. The x86_64 VirtualBox is able to run VMs that don't need a 64-bit CPU.
My CPU is an AMD Athlon 7750. /proc/cpuinfo shows svm in the flags section.
Motherboard is Gigabyte GA-MA78G-DS3H.
Googling suggests that having kvm_amd loaded can cause this, but I don't.
