[xubuntu-users] Setting file-open dialogues not to show hidden files and directories?

At some point in the past, I set a configuration option somewhere so
that most applications' file-open/save dialogues are showing the
hidden files and directories.  Unfortunately I now want to switch this
off, and I have no idea how I switched it on in the first place.  Any
hints where to look?
