[xubuntu-users] New to Xubuntu: For some reason the right side "Alt" key doesn't work...

For some reason the right side "Alt" key doesn't work...
I don't have a clue why. I've always just accepted the default us 
keyboard. And from any other Linux I've tried, both Alt keys work the same. 
It's not a major burden as when I'm using both hands I normally would hit 
the modifier key(s) with one hand, and the action key with the other. But 
when I've only got one free hand it's hard to feed <Alt><Enter> to mc to 
copy a filename to mc's command line. And frankly that happens to be my 
most used mc shortcut... Hints anyone???

Note: If it matters, Xubuntu 9.10 (Karmic) was installed from the
alternate install CD on a Gateway laptop (MT6451 Notebook PC) It
has AMD Turion 64x2 processors and a 120 gig HD...
