Do you know where the drive is mounted?  Type this to find out:

	df

Perhaps the permissions on the directory which the USB is mounted are 
not correct.  You could chown the dir to your username.  Once the 
mounted dir is owned by you, you should be able to write to it upon 
plugging it in.

Write back with more info from df and /etc/fstab and perhaps a long 
listing from /media for more help.
