[xubuntu-users] Do I really have to put up with Desktop Downloads Music Public Videos Documents Pictures Templates directories?

I don't want nor use all these automatically created directories, apart
from anything else I *hate* names with upper case letters as they're so
much easier to mistype.

They clutter up the namespace at the top level of my home directory and
I'd really like to get rid of them.  Is there any 'official' way to get
rid of them *and* to stop them reappearing?
