[xubuntu-users] Sound not working on eMachines M2350 with xubuntu 10.04

Hello,

I have installed xubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) on a less computer savvy
friend's laptop, and it works well, except that there is no sound at all.

The laptop is an eMachines M2350 with an AMD Athlon XP-M processor.
(Interestingly, the ubuntu does not start on this machine, so I went to
xubuntu).

I've tried all the basic steps in the Ubuntu SoundTroubleshooting wiki:
1) I've turned the sound up using the gnome volume-control and the speakers
are not muted.
2) The sound modules appear to be installed.
3) The sound card is physically installed and appears to be recognized by
the hardware.

What are the next steps to fix this problem?
