Hello experts,
I can not find a way to start my wlan connection from a console session
or from a WindowMaker session.

I try:
> $ sudo ifup eth3
> ifup: interface eth3 not configured

where eth3 is the alleged name of my usual wlan connection that starts
automatically with xfce.
Even with xfce running,
> sudo ifdown eth3
complains about unconfigured eth3 although eth3 seems to be up and
running:
> $ ifconfig eth3
> eth3 Link encap:Ethernet Hardware Adresse 00:13:e8:03:bd:6b
> inet Adresse:192.168.0.31 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Maske:255.255.255.0
