[xubuntu-users] Media File Conversion

Hello List,

I'd like to convert .mkv file to anything else - like maybe .avi, and 
what I've found to use is pacpl.

Two questions:
   1)after input of -t avi /(and then the Directory-File info), there is 
a > and no noticeable HD activity. So, is there something else to enter 
at the >?

   2)Is there another way(program-wise)to do this that I've not been
able to find?
