You didn't read what i actually wrote and now your replying by top posting.

The issue with the *buntu is that they no longer seem to be
concentrating on a quality release. Why put Abiword 2.9.2 a buggy
development version in the release (buggy in the opinion of Abiword
developers not mine). In /home you should find it creating loads of
.goutputstream***** files.... and that's in the LTS version Precise or
more appropriately (im)Precise.

I've never used Unity and switched to Xfce before it even came on the scene.
