This is for coaxial and optical S/PDIF, IOW for the digital outputs. Are
you using the digital outputs or are you directly connected to the
analog outputs of your card? I never ever would install pulseaudio, so I
can't help, however, you are seemingly connected to the digital ousputs
and not the analog outputs.
