Thanks, I will have a look. It does refer to some older versions of 
Ubuntu and to Gnome rather than Xfce. I will have a play with it.

What I don't understand is that, when I try to print from a laptop to 
the printer attached to the desktop the program does find and display 
the correct printer. It seems as if it should work correctly, there are 
no error messages when I click on the printer name. It just puts the 
file in the laptop job list but nothing appears on the desktop computer. 
Very strange.
