Perhaps it's not needed anymore, but at least in the past disabling
screen blanking by the power manager didn't work without
$ cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf
[snip]
Section "ServerFlags"
Option "BlankTime" "0"
Option "StandbyTime" "0"
Option "SuspendTime" "0"
Option "OffTime" "0"
EndSection
on my machine
With this xorg.conf settings I could enable and disable screen
blanking by the power manager. Without those entries screen blanking
always was enabled, even when it was disabled by the power manger.
