For Xubuntu 14.04 you have to:

1) open terminal
2) Edit -> Preferences -> Appearance tab -> Default Geometry

Then enter in the numbers you found after running the command in the 
terminal to find out the size. You enter the numbers in reverse of what 
the terminal gives you.
