I don't think his question is how to bring back the greeter. I think
it's how to prevent the greeter from ever coming back again. The biggest
reason my next computer will be Debian instead of *Ubuntu is so I don't
need to have my life and RAM polluted by Plymouth and *dm.
If the OP's question was how to make boot to CLI happen all the
time, you can put an exit at the start of lightdm's config file, and
you'll boot to a command prompt from which you can run startx;exit.
However, that doesn't get rid of Plymouth.
Best of luck. *Ubuntu is excellent, and IMHO getting rid of automatic
boot to GUI makes it even better.
