[xubuntu-users] Upgrade - grub in stall faile now can't boot

I upgraded from xubuntu 13.04/10 ?? with:

do-release-upgrade

at the end it said if failed installing grub now when I boot it fails to the grub-rescue prompt.

I've booted from live dvd and mounted thus:

sudo mount /dev/sda5 /mnt

I see this:

:/mnt$ l
@/ @apt-snapshot-release-upgrade-saucy-2013-11-25_14:41:27/ @apt-snapshot-release-upgrade-trusty-2015-01-06_14:26:30/ @home/

I realized that I had installed with btfrs and get this when trying to install grub (in several locations):

sudo grub-install --root-directory=/mnt/ /dev/sda
Installing for i386-pc platform.
grub-install: warning: this GPT partition label contains no BIOS Boot Partition; embedding won't be possible.
grub-install: error: filesystem `btrfs' doesn't support blocklists.

ubuntu at ubuntu:/mnt/@$ sudo grub-install --root-directory=/mnt/@/ /dev/sda
Installing for i386-pc platform.
grub-install: warning: this GPT partition label contains no BIOS Boot Partition; embedding won't be possible.
grub-install: error: filesystem `btrfs' doesn't support blocklists.

ubuntu at ubuntu:/mnt/@$ l home
ubuntu at ubuntu:/mnt/@$ l
bin/ cdrom/ etc/ initrd.img@ lib/ media/ opt/ root/ sbin/ sys/ usr/ vmlinuz@
boot/ dev/ home/ initrd.img.old@ lib64/ mnt/ proc/ run/ srv/ tmp/ var/ vmlinuz.old@

ubuntu at ubuntu:/mnt$ l boot
grub/
ubuntu at ubuntu:/mnt$ sudo grub-install --root-directory=/mnt/grub/ /dev/sda
Installing for i386-pc platform.
grub-install: warning: this GPT partition label contains no BIOS Boot Partition; embedding won't be possible.
grub-install: error: filesystem `btrfs' doesn't support blocklists.

Is there a way I can fix this. Looking at some discussion online, this seems to be a common issue, but I didn't see a fix for this with btfrs setup.

Any idea how to get grub installed?

Thanks,
