Hi Don,
I agree that Xubuntu is a pretty good OS (been using since 2011); but
I'm going to be "that" guy ;). There are some annoyances I've ran into
with Xubuntu 15.04:
* Extracting a tar via drag-n-drop to desktop causes an annoying
destination error:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/file-roller/+bug/1461671 [2]
(believe this has been fixed but hasn't been backported).
* Thunar crashing when working with luks volumes (copying large
files); this one is rare for me.
My desktop is 16G, 8 core, SSD for reference.
But yea I joined the mailing list too recently... I figured I've been
using Xubuntu for so long I should at least join into the main mailing
list.

Listened to "Popey" on The Jupiter Broadcasting's "Linux Unplugged" podcast and found he give many great comments about the Ubuntu offerings. Have tried many systems and find good in many.

The other flavors I have worked with have been Ubuntu-GNOME and Xubuntu. I love them both, but find that while Ubuntu-GNOME has plenty of quality and polish, I find that Xubuntu has both great polish and flexibility. When I want to change the look of something, Xubuntu easily allows that to happen.

I use a desktop and am pleased to say that there have been no issues or special problems. The system was built by a friend who builds and repairs computers and he let me watch as he crafted the system.
