[xubuntu-users] software installation - Synaptic vs. Software Center

A few days ago it was suggested that Synaptic is to be preferred, at least by
some, over Ubuntu's GUI, Software Center.

I find Synaptic much harder to use and much less intuitive than Synaptic. The
major problem for me, in comparison to the GUI installer, is the HUGE number
of items listed by Synaptic. Now if one knows, a priori, what application /
package s/he wants, all is well and good. Even apt-get usually suffices. But,
if not, good luck finding an item by browsing with Synaptic.

On the other hand, I DID find value in browsing with Synaptic and
un-installing strange fonts that I'd never use and find a couple of nice ones
that may be useful, e.g., the Comic font.
