Is this a new 16.04 installation or an upgrade from a previous version?
I.e. did you click on 'Upgrade' somewhere or did you just install from
the 16.04 installation disk/iso/memory_stick?
If it's *not* an upgrade then I'm afraid it's done what you asked it
to do, you have installed the default system and set of applications.
I agree it can be difficult to migrate a heavily customised system to
a new installation but, on the other hand, re-installing isn't a bad
idea occasionally to get rid of junk that accumulates.
