noatime doesn't make a difference if an application is forcing writes 
with fsync(). That's why I'm saying Chromium is absolutely insane. It 
forces disks spins on every single second.

the buffer cache, and to assure that after a system crash or other 
failure that all data up to the time of the fsync() call is recorded on 
the disk.”
