[xubuntu-users] Xubuntu 24.04.1: Firefox fails to start

installing from a tarball, it's up to you to keep up to date, not the
package manager, it's also up to you to keep up with any updated
dependencies. It's generally easier to stick with even a PPA and just let
the package manager do the work.

You're one step removed from slackware with the route you went.
