Matt:

I have the same problem on my laptop. No links or file types can be
opened directly from within Thunderbird. Even saving attachments can be
hit or miss. The problem does NOT exist on my desktop. Both run Xubuntu
24.04.3.

Copying links and pasting into firefox is my workaround. Saving files to
a folder and then opening via finding in Thunar and double-clicking is
also my workaround.

My preliminary research indicates that apparmour permissions for FireFox
(I also have this problem with Firefox) and Thunderbird snap
installations are misconfigured (neither app can "see" the relevant
helper apps).

I researched snap/apparmour permissions, but have just not had the time
to figure out the specific fixes that are needed to let these apps link
to the rest of the system.
