Commit write group?

When you abort a commit by not saving the file in your $EDITOR, it says
this:
aborting commit write group: BzrCommandError(empty commit message specified)
bzr: ERROR: empty commit message specified
What's a commit write group? Is there a particular reason the user needs
to be told this?
Why is the user shown "BzrCommandError" with some text, especially given
that that text is repeated on the next line? It seems awfully internal
looking. If so, any reason bzr can't suppress that?
