I know I used (*) to refuse the desktop icon and quick launch icon just
having the menu system entry. I have no idea what the standard
behaviour is though.

I think the average user will either install using the simplest possible
installer accepting all the defaults, or will have their machine
provided for them with a standard set up from their central IS
department. People in this latter category are unlikely to be able to
do anything, their machines will be locked down. This implies giving
central sys admins a really trivial way of incorporating Bazaar in their
standard configuration.

For Ubuntu/Debian there is little problem. Presumably Bazaar has RPMs
so RHEL/Fedora/CentOS and SuSE are covered -- good RHEL/CentOS
installing is crucially important since a lot of people use them for
servers.

Windows and Mac OS X are the potentially problematic beasties and so
where good effort is needed.

I doubt the average Windows user knows about the command line. For them
command line means DOS and Windows superceded DOS many years ago.

(*) My life is now totally Windows free :-) (**)

(**) Except that my wife's machine has to run Windows XP so she can run
all the software for her work :-((
