Persistent issue...

I wanted to bring this up here first, before entering it in the issue
tracker to make sure this isn't somehow my fault. We're often seeing
an annoying problem where our central server is coming back with the
following error:
ErrorFromSmartServer: Error received from smart server: ('error',
"bytes must be a string, got <type
'bzrlib._static_tuple_c.StaticTuple'>")
I'm not sure how things manage to get this way. We're hosting via
Apache and mod_wsgi over https. This set up has been serving us
pretty well for nearly a year. What happened recently is that I
picked up a new Bazaar for the server (2.3.1, where we were at
2.2.something before). I did pull it from the Bazaar PPA. Since
then, we can push/pull for a little while, but we ultimately run into
the above behavior after some period of time (it can happen several
times a day). Restarting the webserver seems to help... but I think
there is something else wrong here.
I've attached a branch operation with -Dhpss -Dhpssdetail. I don't
see anything unusual from that transaction, but something is
definitely awry.
Anybody have an idea of what is going on?
-John
