Summary: fails to initialize with nfs
           Product: Ubuntu
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: i386
        OS/Version: other
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: hal
        AssignedTo: martin.pitt at ubuntu.com
        ReportedBy: pbeeson at cs.utexas.edu
         QAContact: desktop-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com

I'm getting the problem hat many on the web seem to have with HAL failing to
initialize when gnome starts up. However, unlike all of those people, I'm not
using any removeable devies. I do however, think that nfs is causing this
problem. Here is why.

I have 2 identical machines. One has this problem, the other does not. The
ONLY difference between the two machines (hardware and OS) is that one serves
files via NFS and the other mounts these directories in it's fstab.

Once, I log in via gdm, Hal fails to initialize due to this error:

pbeeson at xxx:~$ lshal
lshal version 0.4.7
libhal.c 644 : Error connecting to system bus: No reply within specified time
error: hal_initialize failed

restarting dbus (thus hal) after gnome starts gets rid of the lshal error, but
there has to be a more elegant solution.
