I'd guess that something like this is happening:
  * Alt pressed, Crossover receives KeyPress, Metacity takes grab, defocuses
  * Tab pressed, Metacity throws up dialog, does not pass event on
  * Tab pressed, etc
  * ...
  * Alt released, Metacity closes popup, ends grab at Alt event, Alt KeyRelease
is passed to newly-focussed root window

Which would leave Crossover still thinking Alt is pressed.

Indeed, this still happens with the version in Breezy.

This is arguably a bug in Metacity: it should focus the original window before
it passes on the Alt KeyRelease.  Arguably, Crossover should also be more
robust, but yeah.
