Thanks for your bug. How ids that failing to load GNOME? Your description is not
clear, ctrl-al-backspace should bring you to gdm not to the command line. Anyway
if it keeps crashing gdm uses the "XKeepsCrashing" value to run something by
default. The package also has a "NoXKeepsCrashing=true" option that you can put
to /etc/gdm/gdm.conf for this. I'm closing this a NOTABUG since that's a
configure option. Feel free to reopen if you think that's still an issue
