[Bug 48018] Panel freeze

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

When I select "Quit..." (unsure of the exact wording since I use a localized version) in the System menu the entire menu and the window list freezes. 
About a minute later the logout dialog appears. If I then close the dialog, the panel is no longer frozen and I can reopen the dialog (by selecting Quit in the menu) without having this problem.

This is on an upgraded Dapper ppc install with gnome-panel version
2.14.1-0ubuntu16.
