Can you please do the debugging dance described on http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingRemovableDevices again on latest dapper? My assumption is that hal does not poll the drive for new media.

Can you also please do

for i in `pidof hald-addon-storage`; do sudo grep -z HAL_PROP_BLOCK_DEVICE /proc/$i/environ; echo; done

and copy the output here?
