[Bug 47712] ekiga Setup volume level far too low

Public bug reported:

ekiga is a software VoIP (Internet) phone.  ekiga has a Wizard that
guides the use on setting up their details.  One of these setups is an
option to "Test" the microphone and speaker settings.  This worked, but
the recording level was far too low and not automatically adjusted.

For instance, sratch the microphone casing resulted in a very faint
scratching noise coming back.  Checking in the Gnome/ALSA mixer, the
Microphone channel was indeed almost at the bottom:
