I have the same bug:
When I click system->quit then "switch user", gdm is shown, but
the mouse is freezed.
When I switch consoles using Ctrl-Alt-Fn, the mouse becomes active again.

1. click system->quit then "switch user"
--> gdm is shown, mouse is inactive
2. switch to 1st X console using Ctrl-Alt-F7
--> gnome-screensaver password check for 1st session is shown, mouse works
3. type password
--> 1st session desktop is shown, mouse works
4. switch to new (2nd) X console using Ctrl-Alt-F9
--> gdm login is shown, mouse works !


A few side notes:
- I use the nvidia 9xxx beta drivers
- it's new edgy install, not an upgrade, but /home was kept as-is
