More data ! Nothing in /var/log/syslog|messages, but
/var/log/Xorg.20.log has:

(WW) Synaptics Touchpad can't grab event device, errno=1022

Which makes me realize I didn't mention the fact my 'mouse' was a
touchpad :p

This line only appears in the log for the 2nd session.
