A further data point: side by side I open two terminals.  In one I have
`top' running.  In the other I do someting to make the terminal screen
scroll.  In `top' I can see that Xorg's cpu usage converges to 100 %.

... for example gives a Xorg cpu usage of 40 %, which is too much in my
understanding.
