I also have this problem... I can reproduce this by placing a window on
top of the gnome-terminal (covering a small area of it) and changing the
virtual desktop... When I come back to the desktop the gnome-terminal is
black, i have to force the redraw (by changing tab, moving, ...)

I'm using transparency in the gnome-terminal and composite is disabled.
This occurs with both fglrx and radeon drivers (ATI 9600).
