Running alacarte from the command line reports it uses /var/lib/python-
support/python2.5/ and my version is 2.5-5ubuntu10. I also have version
2.4.4-2ubuntu4 installed. I have several other python packages
installed. Alacarte seems to be a python app.

I tried this on a second machine and besides being way slower than my
main machine it still worked sometimes required a second click on the
move up or down button to work but it always moved the intended item
without re-selection.

Problem must be in some supporting package. Repositories couldn't be
different because of the different languages, could they?
