Black screen when thin client boots

Good evening list,
I'm stuck on a problem that probably has a simple, obvious,
well-documented solution, but I can't find it.

I've set up a new Edubuntu server to replace an old K12LTSP server in a
small computer lab. The server has the 7.10 revision of Edubuntu server
and as far as I can tell the install went without exception.

The thin clients are old PII workstations that performed well on the old
K12LTSP server.

As far as I can tell the server is set up properly, but whenever I start
a thin client it boots (I'm using a floppy boot disk) normally until the
Edubuntu logo shows on the monitor, then after a moment or two the
screen goes black, leaving nothing but a white cursor.

Apparently the thin client and the server are communicating but the
log-in screen never appears on the thin client monitor.

I'm new to Edubuntu and really don't know where to go from here. If
anyone would care to point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
MRG
