New Server with Fat Client Graphics Troubles

Hello Everyone,

Seasons Greeting!

My students liked the 12.04 fat client Unity/Ubuntu Desktops over the 14.04
Gnome fall-back.  That and as I was having troubles getting the Arduino to
work with the new 14.04 server I've re-installed 12.04 on the backup
server.  Now, the fat clients seem to boot ok but after logon all the
screens look like:
