crichton, thanks for looking at it.
The T40 is multiboot with Lucid, Meerkat, Narwhal, and the new Ocelot partly installed.
Wouldn't boot at all, just got grub rescue>
It would not recognize some of the grub rescue commands such as linux.
Flailed around for a couple hours with no luck. Then tried:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2#Reinstalling%20from%20the%20LiveCD
Boot to the LiveCD Desktop.
Mount the partition with your Ubuntu installation. I picked one of the three available, Lucid.
sudo grub-setup -d /media/LucidLTS/boot/grub /dev/sda
reboot
Voila! Everything back again.
The partly installed 11.10 would come up as guest but pretty crippled, example no /etc/apt/sources.list.
Couldn't make a new user. What's the password for guest, anyway. Likely not worth pursuing.
I'm writing a CD with the 20111011 image to see if it will install....
