I also suffer form this problem where update manager will install
updates upon clicking 'Install Updates' however this is done without
requesting the administrator password.

There is nothing special about my machine, just 11.10 upgraded from
11.04.

Software centre and synaptic do request administrator passwords.

As this is a shared computer, this problem is of some concern.
Changing the  the 'Software Sources' via the Update Manger 'Settings' button does prompt for the admin password.


Other than this 11.10 is cool.

Bug description:
  I just went to update my system--worked, but I didn't have to enter my
  password to allow changes to the system.  I'll include a video of this
  happening next time I see there are available updates.
