Title:
update-manager aborts when running out of space

Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: update-manager

When the partition / becomes full during the upgrade, update-manager
does not advice the user to free space but simply stops working. A
novice user would think that an upgrade is not possible. After freeing
  space the upgrade continues

  updating from intrepid to jaunty
