Title:
Cannot select working directory other than own home in applications

Status in “ubuntu-meta” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Linked this report to ubuntu in general, because I discovered this
behavior in at least two applications in gnome:

  1.
Open any libre office app. Go to options, paths, edit template paths.
  Click "add".
Choose any path on system, in my case "/home-shared/config/templates/startup-templates" (which holds standards templates I sync across a number of machines)
  Click ok
The path added to libre office reads "/home/markus" (my real home folder)

  2.
  Open arista transcoder
  clieck create conversion
  click on source
  Select "choose directory"
Choose any directory on your system
Selected directory become my /home/markus directory again.

So it makes me believe that there is some thing wrong under the hood
in gnome or anywhere else in linux since it affects at least two
  applications with the same symptoms.
