I am sorry that it has been so long before someone responded to this
report.  Do you still have this issue, and are you still using 10.10?
If you are can you please try 11.10?

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gparted

  I have a Lacie Hard disk (USB 2.0, 1 TB) which I attempted to create a
  partition in (all free space, ext2). Upon hitting apply, gparted
  crashed.
