[Bug 1173320] Re: No progress indicator or other message during hard disk drive partition check

During shutdown, before the plymouth splash was displayed, a message on
the terminal indicated a partition check at next boot; that next boot
needed quite a while (several minutes instead of maybe half a minute
otherwise) and was accompanied by the usual partition checking noise, so
I'm pretty sure that there actually was a check in progress (and yes, no
message or other partition check progress indicator was shown, just the
Kubuntu logo).

Shall I still test with "sudo touch /forcefsck"?

I don't have encrypted home directories or full-disk encryption.

Title:
No progress indicator or other message during hard disk drive
  partition check

Status in “plymouth” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
When a hard disk drive partition is checked, nothing indicates that
fact. Also, there is no way for the user to know how to cancel the
check (if that's possible any longer at all) in case he somehow knows
about the check being in progress - a message like "Press 'C' to
cancel" used to be displayed in Kubuntu oneiric for example.

Plymouth theme is plymouth-theme-kubuntu-logo (13.04ubuntu11); plymouth is
0.8.8-0ubuntu6.1 (Kubuntu raring installed on Samsung NC10).

  This worked in Kubuntu oneiric.

Maybe this one is related to bug #966480/bug #1170421 (no messages
  displayed)?
