** Description changed:
Yeah been using Ubi for a long time.... and occasionally - I need to use
a LIVE CD on a Windows system....
That's fine.
BUT when I run Ubi, I usually run it firewalled and the same with
Windoze...
-
- But what horrifies me a little bit, is that the Ubi live CD's upon booting, the OS has the internet connections ON and running - by default.
+ But what horrifies me a little bit, is that the Ubi live CD's upon
+ booting, the OS has the internet connections ON and running - by
+ default.
Why? because I am usually backing up my carefully debugged and nasty
free systems at the same time - and the last thing I want to happen is
to be hacked - when the original data sets and backup drives are on the
system at the same time.
But this DEFAULT internet on setting ought to be switched off - because
- it's so damned passive and it's easy to overlook, even for me, and it's
+ it's so passive and it's easy to overlook, even for me, and it's
potentially a real trap for the novice.
I feel that the internet connection must be turned off by default and a
firewall with reasonably good and secure settings, ought to be enabled
by default on start up as well.
I also feel that a notice to "enable the internet connection" ought to
be flashed on screen..
AND
I also want to see a FLASHING internet logo - as in your internet
connection is ACTIVE and sending and receiving traffic.
This passive "dead screen" logo has to go.... and make it flash in
interesting colors... like bright orange and green or something.
