I saw this issue myself on upgrade; fwiw I think it's much deeper than
memtest, I think the actual bug is in os-prober (called by update-grub,
called by memtest postinst).

** Package changed: memtest86+ (Ubuntu) => ubuntu

Title:
  lvm snapshots cause memtest86+.post to become defunct

Status in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  I was upgrading from quantal to raring on a system which had lvm
  snapshots. Several times it froze, with a memtest86+.post process
  being defunct. I had to kill -9 the memtest86+.post process and its
  parent to get it to proceed.

  Afterward, manually doing apt-get install memtest86+ reproduced this
  every time.

  Removing all the lvm snapshots fixed the problem, now (after a reboot)
  I can apt-get install memtest86+ just fine.
