I tried to get the 12.04 ubuntu server image on a pendrive, which failed
as per the bug description. I used 12.10 on my laptop. On the same
laptop I booted up a VM running 12.04 desktop as live CD and the SDC
from there successfully installed the same image on the same pendrive.
