[Bug 1105631] [NEW] quantal netboot hangs starting up partitioner

boots up, asks various questions, downloads various components, says
"starting up the partitioner", accesses discs for a couple seconds,
screen goes blank purple, and it hangs thus.  same on either my laptop
or my desktop.
