  When update-manager fails, no way to cancel/recover

Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  During todays update of the kernel, update manager just stopped. I
  have no way to cancel the update because cancel is greyed out, and
  there's no close button. See screenshot..

  It's now 13:19 and it's been wedged for some time:-
